The Purchasing Director is responsible for the organization's materials management and purchasing function to achieve service and inventory goals, directing the establishment and implementation of the organization's purchasing policies and procedures, as well as the development of best practices in processes to drive service level improvement. Works across functional and geographic boundaries to ensure high levels of customer service and satisfaction relative to inventory levels, service, and management.

 

REPORTS TO:             

Accounting Director, Controller

ESSENTIAL JOB DUTIES PERFORMED:

  • Negotiates with vendors for the purchase of all materials, supplies, equipment, and services used by the organization, ensuring the best possible prices and guarantees.
  • Establishes purchasing policies and ensures compliance, establishing and maintaining measurable performance metrics for all levels of procurement activities to include, but not limited to, supplier performance, supplier quality, internal order placement performance, buyer activity levels, financial performance, and material shortage elimination.
  • Develops new supply sources where current vendors are inadequate.
  • Examines bids and makes awards.
  • Establishes account/credit and terms.
  • Negotiates blanket purchase orders when appropriate and monitors costs during time period.
  • Checks requisitions for appropriate approvals and accurate account numbers.
  • Manages the tactical operations of the materials management and purchasing function, including management of staff.
  • Collaborates with management to ensure accurate forecasting and inventory planning.
  • Coordinates with counterparts in other areas to ensure alignment of activities and objectives.
  • Implements best practices in developing supply chain networks across geographical areas.
  • Identifies and implements process improvements to increase efficiency and accuracy.
  • Identifies vendor opportunities and challenges, resolving issues quickly and appropriately.
  • Complies with corporate guidelines on business ethics; follows environmental and safety regulations and acts in accordance with U.S. and state laws.
  • Strategically develops and implements commodity/supply chain strategies.
  • Develops and operates within department budget.
  • Ensures that computer programs used for supply chain purposes continue to operate as required; is involved in ongoing validation of the system and department processes.
  • Performs other job duties as assigned.

REQUIREMENTS:

  • B.A. or B.S. Degree required with relevant (e.g., operations, business) field of study preferred.
  • 7+ years of relevant materials management and purchasing experience; Medical industry-related experience preferred.
  • Extensive working knowledge of inventory planning, forecasting techniques, and operational systems.
  • Inquisitive, detail-oriented with strong quantitative analytical skills and an innovative approach to problem solving required.
  • Excellent MS Office capabilities required.
  • Strong written communication and presentation skills required.
  • Some travel may be required.
